"Dainty" is a collaborative exhibition that mines the experiences of girlhood to uncover the nature of feminine identity. Growing up as girls in the 70s, our stories are flavored by our mothers and grandmothers experiences from the 50s & 30s. The ways of being feminine, ladylike, proper, etc. do not bind us as women in the same ways they bound our mothers, but they continue to define us. With humor we ask the viewer to consider the subtle roles and expectations that thread through the generations. By examining the many threads that bind even as they strengthen, "Dainty" playfully voices both the oppressive nature of the feminine ideal and the subversive/liberating opportunities embedded within. We encourage you to join the Dainty Dialogue and share your thoughts on the subject.
